Glorious Summer

Marigolds and buttercups,
spending days in sunshine,
oh glorious summer!

Lying on our backs,
gazing at the puffy clouds.

Let's run through the sprinkler,
while we wait for the Good Humor Man's bell-
I'll get a the strawberry shortcake bar-
you want the toasted almond.

Evenings on the porch stoop
telling ghost stories,
or playing hide and seek
till the lightning bugs bring us
running from our hiding places
to catch them in our cupped hands.

Oh glorious summer,
how I long for those days again.
