Memories of Days Gone By

Lego's spread across the floor,
race cars turning in circles.

Imaginary football games,
keeping careful score.

Pigs in a blanket
served on a Flintstone's plate.
Ketchup smeared across his chin.

Camp showers outside on the patio-
a warm stream of water from the hose,
turns cool as I rinse
the baby shampoo from your hair.

Sleep shirts on clean bodies,
a bowl of ice cream carefully balanced on each lap,
giggling at the flickering images on the tv screen

Curled up on the bed,
sweet-smelling boys flanking each side
as I read aloud one last story before bed.

Sweet dreams, say goodnight,
sleep tight, and don't let the beetle bugs bite!
