There were two things I wanted to do for my kids during childhood. Ok, there were more than two, but right up there in the top ten was to make a specially decorated homemade birthday cake, and to make awesome Halloween costumes.
Thanks to the miracles of a little box of Rit Dye and sweatshirts, sweatpants or a plain white tee, I created some memorable costumes for my kids.
My oldest son was particularly imaginative and always seemed to be on the cutting edge of a trend. Year after year he would chose a specific character only to find the costume mass produced in a catalog or in Target the next Halloween.
Here are a few of his favorites:

His brother started getting creative too:
I miss those days of thinking up fun costumes for my kids. Halloween, like Christmas, starts to lose it's magic when the kids grow up.
