Small Stones Day 8: Moonglow

Moon's glow
so bright and gentle,
Highlight the path,
illuminate my way home.

Taking my evening walk, the full moon was high and bright in the sky. The moon's glow followed me as I made my trek around the neighborhood. It seemed like months since I had been on this path. In fact, it had only been five days.

So much has changed since the last evening I set out to power walk with my husband. The neighborhood is dark and somewhat dreary again. Last week, Christmas lights still adorned most of the houses along our route.  The last of the Christmas trees lie abandoned on the curb, stripped of their finery. Even the weather has changed, from frigid back to seasonably cool.

So much has changed since I last took that walk. I was plunged into darkness and uncertainty as my son faced his diagnosis. I've been walking through this new reality without a clue as to where we were headed, yet for his sake, I've been muddling my way through by sheer instinct.

Tonight the moon reminded me of the comfort of light, be it a fierce, blinding light like the sun, or the gentle illumination cast by the moon. By nature we seek the security of light. We wish to know where we are headed.

However, sometimes have to move forward through the darkness in order to finally reach the light.
