Small Stones Day 18: Women of Power and Might

"In your Twenties, you own your sexuality; in your Thirties, you own your adulthood;
in your Forties, you own your self; in your Fifties, you own your voice; in your Sixties, you own your power." ~ Marianne Williamson

I saw this quote the other day and fell in love with it. There is so much truth in this statement. I began to reflect back on my own life.

During my college years, I discovered my sexuality; it's pull and it's power. It was all part of figuring out exactly what it meant to be a woman.

My thirties brought marriage, children, a mortgage and the minivan. Suddenly I was the grown-up with all of the responsibilities. It was sometimes scary, but I embraced the role.

Then came my Forties. My life began changing as my kids grew up, and I realized that I wanted to be more than the roles I had played for years. I had forgotten how to be me.  I spent most of the decade rediscovering myself.

As my Forties came to a close, I had a firm sense of who I was. I had embraced both the good parts and the not so flattering aspects of myself. My mantra became, "I am who I am."

As I enter the next decade, my voice has begun to emerge, strong and clear. I am no longer afraid to speak out, as I continue to learn about myself through writing, blogging and journaling.

The Sixties and beyond no longer frighten me. I'm looking forward to coming into my power. And beyond that, who knows?
