Timing is everything the sages say, and I am a firm believer of that phrase.
Call it God's time or kismet, but the universe turns and we are caught up in that flow of time. Many people cross our paths, some only briefly but some stay and become part of our lives. All share something with us.
There are the fools and there are the sages; both are important to us. The fools teach us how to distinguish gold from brass. They keep us from folly by reminding us to stay the course, to mull carefully over our choices.
The sages offer us the wisdom they have learned through life. They are our mentors, our champions and our guides. Sages hold a mirror up for us to see our true reflection. They help us remain true to ourselves.
Sages and fools enter our lives all of the time, but we are not always aware of their purpose until later. Like casting bread upon the waters, it is only later that their blessings come back to us.
If we stay vigilant and keep our hearts open, we benefit from their collective wisdom and stay the course in life. I know this to be true, because it has happened for me so many times over the course of my lifetime. And more recently, they led me to find the love of my life.
He had been a part of my life for years, on the periphery, but we were always aware of each other. At a key time of my life when I was soul searching, crying out for guidance, for a wise person or a fool to show me the way, the One who knows our hearts best heard the scream of my soul.
The Divine One gave two of his beloved ones the gift of sight. The "insight" that comes when one learns to gaze with the heart, not just the eyes.
Two battered hearts scarred and broken. Two tired souls crying out for their lost halves. Two lonely people who were convinced that true love was not possible. Two people who hid their true selves under layers of defenses.
The Divine gave them many gifts: not just the gift of "insight." They also received the gift of hearing, to hear the hearts lament behind innocent words, and the gift of touch, to connect their souls through a simple kiss.
But the greatest gift of all was the ability to LOVE the other enough to hold on when times are tough, and to love enough to let them go, because true LOVE is about always wanting the best for the other person, even if that isn't best for you.
The fools kept us from losing sight of this gift, and the sages helped us keep the faith, when all seemed lost. They were beside us the whole journey; each one a guide for the journey.
I truly believe that timing is everything, if we keep vigilant for the sages and the fools, we can find the greatest gift of all, LOVE.
